Eat breakfast and lose weight
Fact: if you want to reduce your waistline, breakfast is a must. A study at Massachusetts showed that men who skip breakfast were 4-5 times more likely to carry a bigger gut than those who eat first thing. A nutritious breakfast stimulates your metabolism and kickstarts your body into calorie burning mode- and importantly it gives your body the energy it needs for the morning ahead. Start your day with a healthy breakfast and you’ll be less likely to overeat at lunchtime or snack on rubbish throughout the day. Here are some tasty options to try:
Summer berry breakfast- mix a handful of oats (25g) with berries (200g) and natural yoghurt (200g) for a tasty start to the day. Berries are crammed with vitamin C, A, iron and potassium which will help convert the food you need into energy. Oats are low-sugar, low-fat and low GI - all of which properties help your body to balance blood sugar spikes. Yoghurt contains probiotics, which can help balance the good and bad bacteria in the gut, aiding weight loss and boosting metabolism.
Scrambled eggs on toast- scramble 3-4 egg whites with a little milk and place on to 2 slices of wholemeal toast. Egg whites are packed with protein, low in fat and help your body to build muscle. The wholemeal bread is high in fibre and low in sugar to keep you feeling full for longer.
Fruit Smoothie: blend 25g whey protein, 300ml skimmed milk, 100g strawberries and a banana for a nutrition packed start to the day.
Porridge and honey- make up 45 g of porridge with 300ml of skimmed milk and add a tea spoon of honey for a natural sweet kick.
Sunday breakfast- The good news is you can still enjoy a delicious Sunday breakfast and keep your waistline in check. Ditch the fried eggs, bacon and hash browns and replace them with a healthier combo:
· 2 poached eggs
· 2 slices of rye bread
· 3 slices of avocado
· 100g of baked beans
· 2 grilled tomatoes
Low in saturated fats and sugar, high in protein and essential ‘good’ fats (avocado) you will stimulate fat metabolism, keep your blood levels under control, suppress fat storage and keep hunger your hunger at bay.
